The observations documented the accumulation of organic matter in the ice. The box model estimates biological production in the ice at 208mgCm^<-2>day^<-1> (Mar. 1-2) and 60mgCm^<-2>day^<-1> (Mar. 2-11), and estimates the fluxes of the physical release at 142mgCm^<-2>day^<-1> (Mar. 1-2) and 68mgCm^<-2>day^<-1> (Mar. 2-11), which account for more than 70% of biological production in the ice.
