When the water samples were incubated under different pressures at 2℃, good growth was observed at pressure levels of the depths where the samples were collected. These results suggest that the bacterial population at each depth of the deep-sea is well adapted to the environmental conditions, as has been suggested by A. A. YAYANOS (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.
