Ten water and 3 algal mat samples were collected at 2 sites in March, August and October 1983. A total of 31 taxa identified and their vertical distribution are described here: Cyanophyceae, 18; Chrysophyceae, 3; Bacillariophyceae, 6; Chlorophyceae, 4. Among these, Synechococcus brunneolus RABH., Phormidium luridum (Kuxz.) GOM. and Paraphysomonas imperforata LUCAS fo. No. 2 TAKAHASHI are the first records from Antarctica, and Chroococcus turgidus (KUTZ.) NAG., Phormidium angustissimum W. et G. S. WEST, P. crouani GOM., P. pristleyi FRITSCH, P. retzii (AG.) GOM. and Lyngbya limnetica LEMM. are new to the Ongul Islands. Cyanophycean algae were most abundant in March.
