The evaporation rate of a polyhedral ice crystal is several times larger than the growth rate. The reason is because the slope of an evaporation pit P_e of the ice crystal is larger than the slope of a growth hillock P_g in addition to the increase of active sites of evaporation. The former means that the step separation of the evaporation pit λ_e is smaller than that of the growth hillock λ_g. |
